So this weekend came and went in a blur. A few reasons for that. 1) We were busy with cleaning up branches in the back yard, working at our real jobs, family coming into town for graudations and then parties for said graduations and 2) I got a freaking concussion.
Part 1 of my weekend described above went off pretty much without a hitch, but part 2 started all because of part 1. Here we go...
Once upon a time there was a beautiful wife who was trying to be a big help to her family by helping clean up the pile of branches in the backyard. This woman was not a very graceful person, nor was she much of an outdoorsy girl, but she was still trying to help. So after her dad brought over a trailer to put the branches in and her and her hubby found out it wasn't going to be big enough for all the branches they decided to use a tarp to get the rest of the branches on so the next day would be easier to load into the trailer after it had already been taken to the chip site. So after that was taken care of there were some dead leaves and mulchy type stuff where the branches had been and the fearless heroine (sp? I don't know if this is the female hero or the drug) was dragging the trash can to load it up with the nastiness. Then the evil trash can decided it wanted to buck tradition and it didn't want to hold the trash so the trash can and our female hero got into a fierce battle. Starting with a foot to the lid and ending with the trash can being the winner on top of her.
It was the most ridiculous thing ever. I tripped and the trash can beat the crap out of me. I went to the doctor Monday morning and I have a mild concussion and the popping noise I heard in my face when I faceplanted into the trash can was the ligament in my jaw tearing. Yeah, I'm guessing you don't have a story to beat that huh?!

My Table Steal
So here is our new table! Isn't it pretty? And I love it! Here's the skinny on how we got this totally awesome table for $75!
My boss/friend had this table. She also has a 4 year old son. He was sitting at the table one night with his dad and he fell off his chair. After the chair falling incident he complained about his shoulder hurting. He would use it when he wasn't trying to get attention about his owie but he wasn't using it to the fullest of it's potential. So they finally (2 days later) took him to the doctor. Lo and behold, small child had broken his clavicle. How crazy is that? Well, my friend is a little crazy and she decided that they needed a new table because she didn't want any more accidents. And me being the terrible mother that I am said, how much are you selling that bad boy for?!? Alright, I admit, I'm not a horrible mother. My little monkey has been sitting at tables this height since he was knee high to a grasshopper since my parent's have one. And we will definitely be extra careful knowing that we don't have carpet under the table like my friend even had. But seriously, I coudln't pass up on this table. It is like new and it's probably the nicest piece of furniture we have in our house other than our bed! So hoowah!
Now onto the funny part of the situation. We had an old laminate table that was roundish and really bulky with rolling chairs (on a side note...I will be selling that table in a garage sale if anyone's interested!). Not a terrible table but nothing fancy. Anyways...when we moved into the house where we were putting the table had a rug. We have kept the rug there the whole time we have lived here (6 years). We pulled up the rug last night and good lord. The linoleum flooring underneath is discolored. So we have 2 different colors of floor from our dining room into our kitchen. Not so funny, but nothing we can do about it! We are now trying to decide how much it will cost to get new linoleum or if for right now we just need to buy a new rug. But I've priced some and they're expensive! And you can get some pretty nice looking flooring that is just stick down. So maybe by the end of the summer we will have new flooring in our kitchen too! Fancy!

My life-my week
So I’ve been absent again and I’m sorry. I have been trying to keep a positive attitude but the hits keep coming. Here is an update on my life this week:
Monday: Have to be to work at 7:30. Get to work and then need to open the other branch at 9:30. Leave first branch to go to my car at 9:25 and car will not start. Luckily someone who is supposed to be at other branch is able to get me and take me where I need to be. Of course, this starts the second part of my day off not so great. I then have to deal with employees who think that they are the most important thing to me and that I care about the fact that they have to work 2 long days to get to go on vacation for the rest of the week (boo hoo) and another one not being able to keep track of her own vacation time so I am having to tell her (and then explain to her) why she only has a ½ day left to mark on the calendar (in addition to the other 9 ½ that she has already used or scheduled to use later in the year). After dealing with no fewer than 3 drunk customers by the time I clock out at 3:30, I have to wait until after 4 to leave because that is when someone can take me to get my hubby’s car to pick up the monkey and then head home to wait for him to get there so we can figure out what is wrong with my car. By 7pm we get to my car and can’t get it to start until after 8 with the help from my dad. Then when we get home it dies again when I turn it off, so I make a quick run to McDonalds for us and then get to eat about 8:30. In bed after 11. Luckily we figured out that it is just a connection to the battery and not the alternator or the starter.
Tuesday: It was luckily my day off so I took monkey to school about 9 and then got home by 9:30. I stayed in bed watching TV and sleeping off and on until 4. I got up, read some blogs, hit up facebook and then went to pick up Leo. This was actually a pretty good day. A few things happened that made it better: I bought a table from my boss for $75(!) and her husband brought it down to us and I got to go eat dinner at my parent’s and saw my brosef and his family and then of course walking with my mom is always relaxing! The table situation is a post in itself so I will explain that then.
Wednesday: Back to the shitstorm that is my life. Went to work from 7:30-6. Long day. Then went to drop off movies at the library and then go pick up the monkey. After getting him home I check the mail. We have a violation in our mailbox having something to do with our back easement and then a pile of branches that are enclosed in our backyard. I know that we are lazy and have just stacked a ginormous pile of branches in our back yard. But it’s my backyard and they are all in a neat pile. If we get a violation I don’t know how our neighbors who park 2 of their vehicles on the grass do not have one. I know those scenarios are two different things but still. I think cars on the grass is trashier than tree branches. And the bad thing is we only have until Monday to get them cleaned up. We don’t own a pickup and we don’t have easy access to one mainly because my dad’s tires got slashed on his so he is getting them replaced. So we will have to haul them into our garage until we can gain access to a truck to get them hauled to the chip site which is only open when we are at work. It’s a pretty vicious circle and I was not happy. It was topped with my female visitor and a migraine. And the fact that my child had chosen this night to decide to start not listening to me. He was in bed at an early 8pm (not really early, normal bedtime, but with this week 8 was early!) and he kept getting up.
Today: Today hasn’t been terrible but I have had to work 9:30-8, so it’s been a really long day knowing that I need to be at home trying to get our backyard cleaned up so we don’t get fined a ridiculous amount to have someone clean up the branches. And I am just in dire need of a vacation. And even when I take vacation in June I will be dealing with 2 weddings. Of course I am looking forward to the weddings…just not the stress that comes with each! :)
Sorry this post has been a bitchfest but I figure this is the placeI can do it! I am looking forward to this weekend because I think we are going to hit up the drive-in movie theater because they have the new Shrek movie and Iron Man 2 playing on the same screen! And I can get the monkey in for free because he is under 5 and admission for adults is only $8, so we can see 2 movies for $16. Technically we could stay for How To Train Your Dragon, and as much as I would like to see that movie I don’t think I can stay up that late! And I’m a little concerned as to how Leo will be able to stay up to watch a 9pm showing of Shrek. But of course when I voiced this to hubby he asked me if I knew our son, and of course he would be able to stay up that late! And we are also going to get to see my aunt and uncle from Kansas City who are coming to town for another one of my cousin’s graduations, so that should be fun too! And I only have to work a 4 hour shift on Saturday so that is even better! So I know it’s going to get better soon, I’m just waiting for it!

Welch Happenings
Day 21-a website
This website is a really good website. I'm not really for sure where she found me but Heather will always comment on my posts and always lifts my spirits when I need lifting! Her blog is about her life with her dogs and her husband. She also has grandbabies and family that she talks about and the life that she blogs about is a good one. There are many other blogs that I frequent, and I link up to those occasionally but this one...http://bnhwelch.blogspot.com is one you should definitely check out.

Day 21-Recipe
This is a recipe I found on www.kraftfoods.com and I made it about 2 weeks ago and it was delicious! And it is super easy and very quick. You can make it in about 30 minutes but the recipe says 40. But seriously, you should try it. And if you are on weight watchers, then the points vaule for 1 chicken breast is 6 points. I served it with baked tostitos, refried beans and salsa. So good and so easy!
What You Need!
4 small boneless skinless chicken breast halves (1 lb.)
1/2 cup TACO BELL® HOME ORIGINALS® Thick 'N Chunky Salsa
1/4 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
1/2 cup crushed tortilla chips
1/2 cup KRAFT Mexican Style Finely Shredded Four Cheese
Make It!
PREHEAT oven to 400ºF. Place chicken on foil-covered baking sheet. Slice three cuts on top of each chicken breast with sharp knife.
TOP each chicken breast evenly with salsa, sour cream and tortilla chips.
BAKE 20 min. Remove from oven; sprinkle with cheese. Bake an additional 10 min. or until chicken is cooked through (165ºF).

Weight Watchers Update
Ok, so I know it's been 2 weeks since I've posted results, but last week was really crappy (I gained 2 pounds) and So I had nothing to say. And the week before I lost, but just wasn't in the mood. So this was the last week of my 10 weeks. Here are my final results:
Down 13.6 pounds. Woo hoo. Let's throw a party! In 10 weeks I lost almost 10% of my body weight! And I am not finished. Even though it has been EXTREMELY tough I am going to continue on the program on my own. I hope by my brother's wedding June 26th, I will have met my target weight of 130 pounds. I have 16 pounds to go in about a month so I'll doubt I'll meet it by then but hopefully I will have gotten closer to it!And the even better news is I get my 75% refund! Double woo hoo!
This weekend is the bachelorette party so I am will be going out of town. I have a few posts that should post over the weekend...more of the 30 day challenge. It has given me something to write about! And hopefully I will have some debauchery to discuss after the weekend!
Hope everyone has a great weekend...I know I will!

Holly Hobby
Challenge #20-a hobby of yours
As I was trying to think of a hobby as I was blogging I was like I don't have a hobby. And then I realized that blogging is my hobby. I wish I scrapbooked or did digital photography but I don't have the creativity needed for those specific hobbies. I have some scrapbooking stuff but I don't know how to lay it out or anything like that. And apparently scrapbooking stuff is really expensive! But I really do enjoy blogging. I have always liked writing and I took a creative writing class in college but the creative part really got me. And then my friend started blogging and I followed her and I really enjoyed reading other blogs that I found. And then she told me I should start blogging and so I did. Because I fall to peer pressure. But it was good for me. It let me vent some things that were going on with my life and also, it gave me a place where I could find other people that have similar things going on in their lives that I could relate to. So, I'm glad I found blogging to be the hobby I have pursued for almost 2 years. Wow! That's crazy, but it has been a good 2 years!

Back in the saddle
So I kind of gave up for my 30 day challenge so it will take more than 30 days but here is for my day 19!
A talent of mine....hmmmm. I can't think of many talents I have that I use anymore. I used to be a cheerleader and a gymnast and I sang in front of the church when I was just a wee lass but I won't barely sing in front of my co-workers because I can't keep a tune. I guess that went with age.
My mom would say I have many talents still but the talent I would like to talk about is sarcasm. I have the gift of sarcasm. My biting wit sometimes gets in the way of straight answers. I don't really know where I got this from. My dad is more brunt humor and my mom has more of a sillly humor. Both are funny but very different from my own. I won't say that they don't use sarcasm because they do, but that is where I usually make my humor from. Especially because the people that I talk to on a daily basis don't always get it which makes it even better. Because I'm mean and I like to laugh at other people. And my hubby and I are very similar in our sense of humor in that sarcasm is a daily ritual in our house. It's funny when we say something sarcastic to the monkey and he of course takes it literally because he's 3. Oh well. We'll start'em early!
So yep...there's my talent!

Forced Sunshine
I am slowly but surely coming out of my funk. Maybe it was the fact that I spent a lot of my weekend with my lovely mom! But not on Mother's Day. Haha. Or maybe just because I know that I am not the person that my mind is saying that it wants me to be. I am not an unhappy person. I don't like to be around unhappy people. So I need to make sure I focus on the positive things that are going on in my life and not the things that I think could or should be better.
So happy day to everyone! The sun is shining and I am (trying) to enjoy life! :)

RTT
It's been a few Tuesdays since I've participated in random thougths Tuesday but I figured what the heck.
It's amazing the things you can get done when you get up at 6:30 in the morning. It's only 8:45 and I've exercised, tanned, taken the monkey to school, got the tags renewed for our vehicle and now I'm blogging. Amazing. But don't think I'm going to make this a daily habit!
We had crazy storms here in Kansas yesterday. It's so funny how fast the weather can change. Within 2 hours it went from being dark and nasty to bright and sunny.
The monkey has officially decided that sleeping at night is a bad thing. I thought once he turned 3 this would end. Well it hasn't. He still gets up at least once a night and tries to sneak into our bed. Most nights I will ask him if he wants me to take him back to his room and he will let me. Not last night. After two sneak attacks he finally decided that he would just sleep on our floor. He's crazy. I woke up with him right next to my side of the bed and I almost stepped on him. Oh well. As long as he knows he can't reform the habit of sleeping with us.
I am still rocking the 30-Day Shred. Jillian is still a bitch but I think my stamina is improving (still). But the thing that makes me the most sad is after I have worked out and taken a shower, I am trying to blow-dry my hair and my arms are still trembling. And now, I am sitting here trying to type and my biceps are sore. You know you get a good workout when just typing is making you sore.
I really need to do the dishes. We haven't really eaten at home because of mother's day and then the storm last night so we were in the basement of my parents house. So there's not much to do but it's just sitting there taunting me. Kind of like the laundry. I think they might start a revolt. Who knows. Maybe they'll decide to do themselves!

Glass Houses
Dearest hubby,
Please don't tell me one night that until I am perfect then I shouldn't tell you how to be and then the next day tell me how horribly I am doing something.
Glass houses will break sooner or later.
K thanks.
Kendra
And to all you people out there that live in the Wichita area...holy crap that storm was crazy. First, supposed to be tornadoes. Second the rain was pouring down, then came the hail. Now it's sunny and no wind. So crazy! I guess that's what happens when you live in the middle of the country. All the weird stuff happens!

F-A-T
So after last week's rough week I have been in a pretty crappy mood. And even after spending time with my family this weekend I am still not feeling in the best of spirits. My mom said it might have something to do with my sis-in-law's bachelorette party this upcoming weekend. And I don't know...maybe that's it. I am excited to go, but I get really anxious about social settings. I've talked about it before, but I am really bad at meeting people and being nice to people. I come across as rude but I'm really pretty shy. So maybe I'm just dreading it because all these other girls (who are so skinny and gorgeous) are going to be there and I'm only going to know my sis-in-law.
Also, I think I have come to realize how people get eating disorders. I have lost about 30 pounds in the last 6-8 months. I have lost almost 15 just in the last 9 but I don't really feel like I feel that much different. I know I have lost the weight because I have had to get new clothes, but when I look in the mirror I still see the same me. My boss was saying how she was showing one of our co-workers pictures from her vacation and there was a picture of me on there from the beginning of the year and the coworker was like you have to show that to Kendra because she will see the transformation just from then. So she showed it to me and I couldn't even tell a difference.
So, still in a bad mood, but I thought it might help to get it out there and open up. That's what this blog is for. Not just the good stuff! And I'm going to close the comments because I didn't write this post as a pity party to get happy comments. But feel free to think happy thoughts and send them my way!
Also, I think I have come to realize how people get eating disorders. I have lost about 30 pounds in the last 6-8 months. I have lost almost 15 just in the last 9 but I don't really feel like I feel that much different. Mother's Day weekend
So this weekend is mother's day. not much going on in the Fernandez household. I told hubby I was buying a tanning package for my mother's day present. Yippee me! I will be tan and not signalling outer space come time for my brother's wedding!
I have taken the monkey to the River Fest (the week long festival for a neighboring city) twice this weekend. Once on Friday for the opening parade, which he loved, and once on Saturday for a showing of The Ugly Duckling from the local children's theater. Both were very entertaining and even though the play was during the monkey's naptime he did pretty well. He got a little antsy after it was over and we had to wait for the bathrooms and then walk back to our car. Overall though, he has been much better behaved than the previous weeks. I am waiting for the downturn because my mother so kindly reminded me, she was sure it was just for a little while. So thanks mom! :)
Last night we went to a reception for my cousins wedding. It was a nice little dinner and they had music going and they even had a characture artist. It was pretty neat. A little weird, but pretty neat! Leo was good AGAIN and he ran and ran and ran until it was time to go. Then he ended up staying up until after midnight. What a crazy kid!
Today is actually mother's day and not much has happened. I was awoken (by what I was told was his fart) by my dear husband at around 7:45. I then got up and watched some cartoons with the monkey. We started getting ready around 9 for lunch at 11 with my friend that had moved back to western Kansas. She called about 11 and said she was running late. So she showed up about noon and we hit the new Mexican restaurant in town. On Mother's Day. After church. During monkey's naptime. Dumbest. Move. Ever. After waiting for what seemed like forever we got our table and got our food. It was delicious though. And we had nice conversation with Kirby. She came back to the house for a little bit but had to head back home before it go to late. Then the boys took a nap (and are still napping) while i went tanning and then ran over to my grandma's house, where I found out she was napping! I am now just waiting for the boys to get up so I can talk them into going to Sam's. Hopefully they will be down for it. If not, we will just have to watch Season 4 of Lost which I checked out from the library. Either one works for me!
I hope all you mom's out there have a happy mother's day! And everyone else I hope you have a happy week!

I'm alive
I know I had been really good about posting lately and then last Saturday I posted and I haven't since. It hasn't been a busy week and nothing crazy has gone on. I just haven't felt like posting. I haven't felt much like doing anything. I'm in a funk, one might say. I have nothing witty to say (not like I normally do anyways, but whatever) and I don't feel like spewing nonsense out there (anymore than I normally do). So I just wanted to say that hopefully I fall out of my funk or something awesome happens so I have something to say. If not, I may be absent. But never fear. I will return!

Final Friday
I went to Final Friday a couple of nights ago with two of my friends. Final Friday is an art crawl in downtown Wichita (the city by where I live) where there are many different shops that hold little art shows for local artists. I had only been to one other Final Friday and it was about a year and a half ago. It was a lot of fun when I went but I just have never made time to go on a monthly basis. So when I decided to try to get a few friends together for the evening I thought Final Friday was a good idea. So we made our trek to downtown and started our little crawl. The first exhibit we went to was a local high school exhibit. They had all different kinds of pieces from watercolor to oil paint to really cool ones that used felt and paper mache. They were all extremely talented artists to say the least! But it made me think about when I was in high school there was no way I could have made pieces like that. We headed to another exhibit and they had a bunch of pieces that were painted on canvases. They were really good too but these ones were for sale so you got to see what “real art” would cost you. And it was in the tune of $300 a piece. Yikes! Finally we hit up Commerce Street, which is the street that has the “hip and edgy” galleries were. Those exhibits were crazy. One was all about male genitalia. I don’t know if it’s just because we’re more accustomed to seeing women’s body parts and not seeing men’s but I felt extremely uncomfortable. Maybe I’m just a prude. Either way, I was very glad to be leaving those exhibits! Again, those were for sale and they were even more! I saw one upwards of $800! Woowee. I need to become an artist! I had a great night and even though some of the art was a little weird I had the best quote of the night to sum up the awkwardness…I think I’m going to trademark it! Here it is: You can’t get mad when you use someone else’s imagination for your entertainment! Maybe that floats their boat, so just because it doesn’t yours doesn’t mean it’s not art!
(Day 17 of challenge: A piece of artwork. Just because I’m not showing you I’m telling you about it! J)

Letters From Home
I skipped yesterdays challenge (the first one out of 16) because it was fan-fic. I’m not even sure I really know what that is so I couldn’t do it justice so you got my spin cycle instead! Day 16 is a song that makes me cry or almost cry. Well the song that I kept going back to when thinking about it was John Michael Montgomery’s “Letters From Home.” I’m not a political person so I am definitely not going into the we should or shouldn’t be at war, or any of that, but every time I hear this song it strikes something inside of me and I cry. Even when listening to it at work just now I got tears in my eyes and goosebumps. The part I think that gets me the most is the “letter” he gets from his dad where it says he’s proud of him and that no one says anything because there isn’t anything funny when a soldier cries. I have a really vivid imagination (sometimes) and when I hear this song I can just picture it in my head, a group of soldiers sitting around and when he reads the letter he has to hold back the tears and everyone just kind of looks away because they all know if they got something similar they would be feeling/acting the same way. So, there’s a song that makes me cry. If you want to listen to it, here is a clip to YouTube. It’s not the actual music video, but it puts the lyrics up there so you can see it while he sings it. This was just the first version I found. I hope you enjoy it and you might need some tissues!
