Staying Alive
So this week has been a rough week. From my previous post you all saw that my demon child had returned and the trend has continued. He has some sweet moments but he decides the bad moments are better and has graced us with those moments all week. It has been stressful and it makes me want to pull out my hair. I have also not been feeling well due to the time of the month which only furthers these situations. But unfortunately, the only person in my household that gets sick days are the hubby so I have had to trek on. I have enjoyed my day off today by staying in bed until 2pm. I got up to get the monkey ready and sent off to school with dad and then watched tv until about 11 then napped until the phone woke me up. It was glorious. The only problem now is making myself get up, get ready and go get the monkey from school. The main problem is that it is freaking snowing outside and I don't want to leave the comforts of my luscious, warm robe that my mom got me for Christmas! (thanks mom!). So I guess I will start to make that journey and I will try much harder next week to return you to your regularly scheduled programs! Have a good weekend!

Nothing, Nada, Zilch
I honestly don't have a lot to say other than the fact that my little one has decided he would like to (again) become the spawn of satan. He likes to throw tantrums, like last night after he'd been in his room for over an hour trying to go to sleep he decided he needed milk. I told him no and when I went to go lay him down he was jumping on his bed screaming. I went to physically lay him down and he slapped me in the face. Needless to say I did not get him milk (although my lovely husband did, after we each gave each other a few choice words). THis morning he did not want to put his shoes on so he felt like throwing his fork would do the trick. Twice. And then when I came home to check my emails today I had one from Parents Magazine about what to do when your child throws tantrums. Either the gods are watching or they have secretly installed surveillance devices and can monitor what we are doing.
Also, Heather over at Welch Happenings gave me an award for :
The only thing I am supposed to do is pass it on to 15 people. I don't have enough peeps to do that to and personally I think all the blogs I read are fabulous so this one's for you! Thanks for the award!Monday, January 18, 2010
Golden Globe Fashions
There were many things I liked about the Golden Globes last night but I will mainly be talking about the fashion. I normally don’t get caught up in awards shows but I had been watching Launch My Line all day on Bravo so my fashion radar was up and so I flipped over to the Golden Globes. Ricky Gervais was freaking hilarious and I was seriously laughing out loud when he was up on the stage. What Paul McCartney said was funny but just reading it off his notecard didn’t make him funny. Obviously the writers had good material…just the wrong person delivering it. Now onto the fashion…
The good:
Zoe Saldana looked really pretty in her wine colored dress.
Sandra Bullock(who won for best actress in a drama) had a really pretty purple dress.
Toni Collette(who won a globe for being crazy in The United States of Tara) had a sparkly gold and cream colored dress. It showed off enough of her figure that it looked super good but not trashy. And her accent just rounded out the whole outfit. Ya know…cause accents do that! J
Sofia Vergara (who is in Modern Family) had a gorgeous dress with just a splash of red in it. It also had a really long train. So pretty!
And finally Jennifer Aniston (who was a presenter) looked gorgeous as always in just a plain black dress and her hair was just down with a little bit of curl.
The bad:
Julianna Margulies won for best actress in a drama but her dress was not pretty at all. It was a wine(ish) colored dress with a cut out but the top part of the cutout looked like it was patent leather. Not pretty.
Drew Barrymore won for Grey Gardens and she talked really crazy-like but it matched her outfit. It was a flesh-colored dress that had some crazy poofs of something coming off of her shoulder and her hip. It might have looked a little bit better if the dress wasn’t flesh colored since she is so pail and her hair is so light but nothing I can do about that!
Cher was a presenter. She wore a black corseted dress. Nothing more to say. But again…it’s Cher!
Christina Aguilera presented with Cher and she wore a really weird dress. It was two-tone, but the only place you saw the two-tone was on her right breast. Now, I think it’s one thing to want to bring more attention to your girls, but two different colors of material? No thanks!
And finally Christina Hendricks. I didn’t know who she was when I saw her on the red carpet but then I saw her come on stage when Mad Men won for something and good lord. Her dress showed all her goodies to anyone who looked. It looked like it was about to fall down. It was a pretty dress, but just didn’t look very flattering on such a big chest!
There were many more pretty and ugly dresses but those are the ones I can remember! Happy Monday to everyone!

Movies I want to see
So there are a lot of movies out at the theaters that I would really like to go see. Unfortunately, having a 2 year old does not always make this the easiest task. First we have to find a babysitter, then we have to have the fundage to go to the theater *which these days you have to pay an arm and a leg to go*. But here is my list of movies I would like to see. Most of them I will try to catch when they come to the local Redbox…gotta love dollar movies!
Daybreakers-Ethan Hawke as a vampire trying to come up with blood to keep the vampire population alive. Or that is what I got from the previews. It just looked dark and good!
Sherlock Holmes-I love, love, love Robert Downey Jr. He is just the right amount of cocky! And I like the idea of a “go boom” Sherlock Holmes. We like the smart Holmes, but explosions get me to the theater!
The Book of Eli-My hubby was the first person to bring this movie to my attention. I had seen the previews a few times but never really paid attention to it. But after he said something about it I really watched it and it looked interesting, so I read more about it and it’s about a man who has one of the last Bibles and he has to get it to safety. The bad guy thinks that it will be a good weapon so Denzel has to go all crazy on him. More explosions=more fun!
The Lovely Bones-I read the book when it first came out and I loved it. I re-read it when I saw the previews for the movie to prep me for it. Now that it is out I’m sure I’ll have to wait for it to come to DVD but that is fine. I’m just hoping it lives up to my expectations from the wonderful writing in the book!
Up in the Air-George Clooney has gone all weird lately but this movie looks interesting. And he’s still really cute to look at! J
Finally…I want to see The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (sp?). It looks super crazy but good. And I love Johnny Depp so even though he is only in it briefly I’m sure he does an awesome job! J
Those are all movies that are out currently…I am most definitely waiting for the next Harry Potter installment, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes out in February or March and then Alice in Wonderland. I know I don’t have enough money to see all of the above in theaters but if I can see at least 2 I will be happy! Are there any movies out that you are dying to see? Maybe I should add some to my list. If only I’ll be able to watch them on DVD is fine with me!

Rants...be prepared!
Here are a few rants about some things I’ve noticed recently…
· Why do women’s restroom stall doors swing in? They are cramped as they are and especially lugging around a kid. I hate using the handicapped stall but there is no way the two of us can fit in there. Also, I’m a larger hipped girl and they always have the trashcan attached to the wall I have to squeeze by to shut the door. And I just get annoyed.
· I dropped the monkey off at the gym daycare last night and there was a new teacher. I’m ok with there being a new teacher…I can’t expect to have the nice, older lady there all the time but here’s what happened…the teacher didn’t even acknowledge that we walked in. And she was holding another kid. So for one, I didn’t even know if she was even the teacher. And she kept talking. I eventually had to ask if it was ok if I got the crayons and a coloring sheet down for Leo. And he definitely wasn’t ok with this person not even paying attention to him or the fact that there were 3 other kids in there running amok. I got back and he was playing by himself and the lady was still talking to a (different) parent. She barely said anything as we walked out the door. I guess I’m glad I don’t pay ridiculous amounts for the daycare there.
· I just witnessed the future of America. I am sitting on the teller line at work and another employee started helping these 2 teen-age girls. They were with a parent so not older than probably 17. They were just plain stupid. They were cussing in front of one of their dad’s and just being rude. I don’t think I acted quite that bad when I was younger. Obviously I was stupid but not rude! And I was a giggly girl but still…hopefully they will get locked up before doing our country any more damage!
· I was at my step class last night and a girl totally biffed it. She looked at me and I just grinned…glad it wasn’t me. I still am having a little trouble with some of the stuff like jumping jacks and jumping on one foot in place (I’m not even kidding…that’s what my aerobics have come to) but my asthma is playing a large part in that. I thought as I have been exercising more hardcore that it would improve but apparently my lungs are as weak as ever. It is really hard explaining to people about how difficult it is to run and things of that nature. I assume (and yes I know what that does to me…) that they are always looking down on me about how it is just probably because I am overweight.
· The floral department at our local Dillons already has their Valentine stuff out. I don’t know about you, but I’m not buying my valentine flowers (at all) but definitely not right now. It’s a freaking month away. Ridiculous!
Ok, so that is too much bitching for me, but I needed to get it off my chest!

Books make you smart
I don't know where I've really had the time to read so much but I have read 5 books since the new year. I have re-read the last 2 Harry Potter Books, Jen Lancaster's Such a Pretty Fat and the first two books in the Percy Jackson series. I will give you a brief review of each of these other than the Harry Potter because you all know how I feel about those!
Such a Pretty Fat: This book was freaking hilarious. Jen Lancaster put a spin on dieting that we can all relate to. Her turning point to make her want to diet was because she didn't feel like she could be more than 2 of these three things: a renter, 40 and fat. Since only 2 of those things she could actually control, she decided to control what went into her mouth. Her funny, biting memoir puts a good spin on how you can change your life with only 1 thing to do. The point I found most funny/sad was when I realized I was reading a dieting book while I was stuffing my face with peanut butter cups. Oh well! If you haven't read any of her books you should definitely run out and get them and devour them! Seriously...stop reading this and go get them!
As for the Percy Jackson books: They are about a young boy who finds out he is the son of Poseidon and has to help save the Greek gods. These are in fact young adults books but I chose to read them because I have heard a lot of good things about them. The storyline is well thought out and I think any book that wants to teach kids about more than vampires and true love is a good read! I also like the characters. They have heroic destinies yet they all have their flaws. We even read out one of the character's "fatal flaws" as she listens to the siren song. I hope the last three books will give me a great read as well!
That is all for now...after I finish the last three books I will try to give you more reviews. And after that I am revving up to read Revolutionary Road. Recommended by Stephen King in the year-end for Entertainment Weekly. Then I figure I would watch the movie! Books are always better than the movies. They leave more to the imagination! Also...I tried to post this blog (of course worded differently) by using the post options and it never showed up...if someone knows what I am doing wrong let me know. And if there end up being 2 similar posts I'll try to delete one.

Round 2
So the other batch of ridiculousness that I have made myself endure last week was starting a new exercise class. It is at the local gym and it is called Step and Pump. It is a combination of a step class and some weights thrown in. I wanted something different than my spin class because I didn’t feel like I was getting results. Well I sure did get something different. I show up to class pretty much right on time and the workout room is completely full. And the spin class that I am used to usually has about 5-10 people. This one has probably 20-25. And we all are supposed to be grabbing step boards, weights and the like. This is a completely new environment for me. And of course the spin class I can just sit on the bike and no one will notice me. Not this class. I was in the very back but we turn around and do kicks and lay down and do weights so everyone can see everyone. And what do they see when they look at me? A girl who can’t keep rhythm. A girl who looks like a big nerd because I also can’t get the steps down right. I am annoyed with myself and I’ll say this…I’m annoyed with my hubby. He knew I was taking this class. Why didn’t he remind me that I would fail miserably? Not that I would have listened to him but still. Real annoyed! Oh well. It definitely got me sweating and my legs were definitely tired afterwards. I’m sure I will see some sort of results by the end of the 10 week class. And I will have (hopefully) gotten over the fact that I can’t keep up with those crazies!
On the upside to all of my exercising…I went to my doctor for my yearly and I have lost 3 pounds since November! A giant victory seeing that it was the holidays! And he said that I am on the right track exercise/diet/weight wise if I am wanting to have another baby. I am not exercising too much to the point where I am constantly exhausted and not too little that I am not seeing any results. Especially with a little guy at home already! I need all the energy I can muster after work and all the chores around the house. And I am probably a good 15 pounds lighter than I was when I had the monkey so that makes me feel better already!
So hopefully now that the nonsense from the beginning of the year has subsided I will get back to blogging regularly!

Distance makes the heart grow fonder?!
So I've been absent for awhile due to, well life! Christmas came and went in a heartbeat and 2010 was supposed to be a fresh start. Well 2010 came in and knocked us down! On Sunday night (technically Monday morning) we were awoken (is this the correct tense?) by the hubby's cell phone ringing at 1:15ish in the morning. It was his sister telling us that his dad had been admitted to the hospital with chest pains. We both had to open the next morning (by 7:30) at work but we both were able to leave early and we picked up the munchkin from daycare by 11. We headed to Dodge City and made it by 2. We never were told what had happened but he had a heart cath done on Tuesday and there is blockage in both sides of his heart but not bad enough that he has to have surgery. THANK GOODNESS! He'll just have to take medication and as long as he takes it he should get better. Then we came home and have been working all week to make up our hours we missed earlier in the week. Yay...
I have another ridiculous story to tell about what I put myself through this week but that is for another day. Hopefully I will get it up tomorrow...if not you'll just have to wait in anticipation! Hope you have a great rest of your weekend!
