Rude Wake Up Call

I had a happy Thanksgiving and visions of sugar plums were dancing in my head as I drifted off to sleep last night. And asleep I was until about 2:45 when I was rudely awakened by the sound of our smoke detector. Now seriously…our smoke detector has given us trouble before. But of course I darted out of bed after one chirp. It sent my heart into a frenzy and I felt like my blood pressure had raised to an insanely unhealthy point. I got up, turned on all the lights in the house and searched for the mystery smoke that set off the alarm. I saw nothing and so I went and laid back down. But I could not go back to sleep. So I decided to watch a show I had DVR’d. I watched it and still didn’t feel like I could go back to sleep. By that time it was almost 4. I knew I had to be up in a few hours to work all day. And I finally succumbed to the tiredness and the letdown from the adrenaline that had built up in me. But seriously? Not exactly the wake up I wanted after a long day before and a long day ahead!

Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope that everyone has realized what is most important to them to be thankful for! I know I have and I'm spending time with them today!

Biggest Pet Peeve

I don't usually go all, I don't like that specific thing or person but I saw something tonight when I was picking Leo up from school that I've seen a lot more lately and it got on my nerves. And that thing is parents smoking in the car with their children. And this is not something that I care about if people are annoyed with this post because it seriously pisses me off when I see it. I have no problem at all if people smoke. That is their choice. I am also one of those people that don't think the government should tell people where they can smoke in public places or anything like that (although it does make it so much nicer if a restaurant or bar is non-smoking) because I am choosing to go to a place where smoking might occur. But I HATE when parents smoke in the car with their kids. The kids have no choice in the matter and can't ask their parents not to. Especially if they are small children. I just think its trashy. Can you really not hold off on the smoke until you can get to a place where your kid will not be affected by your choice.

Ok. I'll get off my soap box now. Have a happy Wednesday!

Random Thoughts Tuesday

So today is Tuesday and you know what that means! Random!

Has anyone seen NCIS Los Angeles? Well I haven't either but I saw a commercial for it and there was a lady on there that looks like a real life version of Edna Mode from the Incredibles. Don't believe me? Here's a side by side and then tell me you don't believe me! See? identical! I guess the lady from NCIS is Linda Hunt. But I'm gonna just call her Edna.

This Sunday was 73 degrees! I couldn't believe it! It's November 21st. It was such a nice day. Leo and I played baseball outside for a little bit and the hubby went and played golf. I'm glad he got a nice day to play!

I went grocery shopping and I spent $20 on light bulbs. I decided that I was going to help the environment and buy the fancy swirly ones. I know I'm late in the game but it says that these baby's should last me 6 years. And that's if I use them 4 hours a day. I'm not even sure we would use them for 4 hours a day because they will be in our kitchen and we don't normally leave that light on for 4 hours a day. But who knows. If it can last me 4 years I think that would be pretty amazing!

Also...when changing the light bulbs I realized that one of the holes where the light bulb goes is broken. I don't know that the light bulb that was in it was actually burnt out because I tried 2 new ones and neither of them worked. So now I just have an empty place where I'm not going to waste a light bulb. And now I really think it's time for a new light/fan. I said that the other day when I was cleaning it and realized that the lamination (yeah, we have old school paddle fans!) on one of the paddles was torn. So now I guess I will have to look for a new one.

I have been a craigslist using fool this week. I posted our old stroller/car seat traveler system on it last Monday and had it sold by Tuesday. I thought that was pretty amazing. {And yes, I understand that I want a baby but that thing was 10 years old and had been through at least 3 kids. If I end up having another baby I think that I want at LEAST 1 new thing that I can say is their own. I had so many hand-me-downs (which I am so thankful for) for Leo that I just want something new. So if I do have another one then I will buy a new one.} And now back to our regular-scheduled program...and then I also had posted our old table and chairs last Sunday and randomly today I got a text message regarding it. I almost had deleted the post because we weren't getting any hits on it. But this person wanted to come and see it. So he stopped by today and bought it! So that is an extra $90 that we made in the last week! Woohoo!

Does anyone else with an almost 4 year old make them still take a nap? I am all about the naps for Leo. And he usually doesn't mind laying down for them. I just usually have to let him know that the nap is coming up and then he will be ok. Or if he is doing something else let him do it and then make him take a nap when he is finished. But the last few weeks he has definitely rebelled against the naps. I even told him that he had 15 minutes and let him continue to play outside. And he came in willingly for the nap but then would not go to sleep. It took over 2 hours of him hemming and hawing about not being tired, needing another hug and kiss, etc. before finally succumbing to the sleepy-world. I just don't know if naps should be going by the wayside. But I really enjoy the time that he sleeps because then I can get stuff done. Like blogging!

Also...does anyone use Etsy? I went on the website today because I have heard so many things about it for like the last million years but never went on. But it seemed really hard to maneuver. How do I find certain shops for specific things? Let me know!

And finally woo hoo! It's almost Thanksgiving! Which means that there are only 33 days until Christmas! I'm so excited. I'm just waiting for the hubby to give me the green light to get the Christmas stuff out and where he wants to put the Christmast tree. So excited!

Ok, well that is all I have for today. Enough random from me so go check out Keely and see her random.

Memoir Monday

Memoir Monday

It's time for another edition of Memoir Monday!

This was one of my work weekends so it was really like one day for my weekend. I woke up Saturday morning to get Leo ready for a fun-filled day with grandma and grandpa. He got to go to breakfast at Village Inn with grandpa and then to Exploration Place (a local children's museum) for a Thomas the Train playgroup with grandma and Chloe. Unfortunately I had to go to work so I didn't get to join in on the fun with them. I was feeling pretty queasy all morning and so work was not that much fun. I even didn't feel well when I came home from work and I went to bed around 8. I was just planning on watching TV but ended up going to bed.

Luckily Sunday morning I woke up feeling much better! The boys let me sleep in until about 9 when I was rudely awoken by Leo and the gum incident. I ended up getting up and making my grocery list and taking Leo to the store while the hubby went golfing with some of my family. While he was golfing I sold a table on craigslist, let Leo play outside for an extremely long time, played baseball with Leo and then chased him around trying to take a nap. After the hubby got home from golfing Leo was FINALLY asleep. We chatted for awhile and then he went and mowed the grass while I made some yummy enchiladas! Then we just spent the rest of the evening watching the Eagles play the Giants.

All in all it was a pretty good weekend! Now I'm just looking forward to Thursday because I'm off work! It will be a pretty busy week leading up to it though. That's ok though because Thursday will be spent with family! Hope everyone else's weekend was awesome and your week even better!

We have let Leo chew gum since he was about almost 2 years old and in the last 2 years we have never had to cut any out of hair or clean any up off of places that it shouldn't be. Until today. But unfortunately the gum did not come out of his hair. It came out of mine. Leo is a hair boy and so when he sits next to me or lays in bed with me he always holds my hair. And he wasn't even sleeping or anything and all of sudden he's like, you have gum in your hair. Acting like it was funny. I was PISSED. I couldn't believe it. I would much rather it be his hair because as much as I wouldn't want to I would just buzz it but MY hair?! Oh heck no. I cut a chunk out of my hair. Luckily I have weird hair in that I have a LOT of hair so you can't even tell I did it. Or at least I don't think you can! But still. Real annoyed. So no more gum for awhile for that kid!

Carry-out or Delivery?

The other day I picked Leo up for school and we were going home and he asked me a question and i still find it really funny.

Leo: Mom, where's the statue of delivery?
Me: Do you mean the statue of liberty?
Leo: NO! The statue of delivery.
Me: Do you mean the statue of the lady that is holding the fire?
Leo: Yeah.
Me: Well she's in New York.

Oh my gosh. I don't even know how I kept a straight face.

Giving Thanks

This week's spin cycle is about gratitude. And I think gratitude is a funny thing. Only because people don't always think they have something to be thankful for but they definitely do. I do not really have high expectations for me or my life (only my son!). I am satisfied with what I have. And I think that most people overlook the simplest things that they should be thankful for. So I'll tell you a few things that I am grateful for and I hope that you look into your lives and be thankful for some of the simpler things. I'm sure there are a lot of things that we could wish for that we think would make our lives better but I think that if you think about what you currently have you will realize how lucky you are!

  • I'm thankful for my family. Especially the family members that take time out of their lives to spend time with me and my little family.
  • I'm thankful to have a loving husband that even if we don't always agree on everything we can come together and without saying anything laugh at the silliest things. And of course raise the cutest kid in the whole world. (I'm not biased or anything!)
  • I'm thankful for my baby boy. He may not be a baby anymore but he will always be my baby and he is super awesome!
  • I'm thankful that me and my hubby both have jobs. And we haven't had to take any furlough hours or paycuts in the last few years. They may not be the "perfect" job but they are good enough for now and they do what they need to do.
  • I'm thankful that we have a roof over our head and food in the fridge and cabinets. We may eat mac and cheese or ramen sometimes but we always have a full belly.
  • I'm thankful that we got to take a trip as a family a few weeks ago. It was only for the weekend but we had so much time and it was all spent as a family. AMAZING.
  • I'm thankful for my blog and all my readers. Sometimes when I've had the worst day I can type out my feelings (even if I don't post it!) and then I get the best feelings when I get responses. You guys make my day!
So that is just a small sample of what I'm thankful for. I hope to see other posts about gratitude and I'm sure from that I'll realize more things that I am thankful for! Have a very thankful Thursday! And check out Sprite's Keeper to see the last Spin Cycle for a while.

And I Thought I Was Crazy

Remember last week when I was talking about how my son was getting his pictures taken? And how he couldn't sit still to save his life and how I went bat-shit crazy because I didn't think any of the pictures would turn out? Yeah, well I was crazy because this photographer is amazing and got at least 3 good pictures of my son! How do I know? Well because she gave us a little sneak peek on facebook. And so for your viewing pleasure are pictures of my extremely photogenic son! What? I'm not biased! Take a look for yourself! :)

Big brown eyes

This one is definitely my favorite! It catches his spirit and sparkle in his eyes!

And then of course the preciousness that is him and my niece. They are so cute together and even if he would never admit it he loves her so much!

***All pictures are copyright of Sophie B Photograpy. If you are in the Wichita/Derby area please check out her work because she is amazing. The website is***

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! I can't believe it's already the middle of November! And next week is Thanksgiving! WOW! Go check out What I'm Loving Wednesday and see what everyone else is loving this week!

  • I'm loving that there are only 38 more days until Christmas! I think that a majority of my posts will have something about Christmas! So excited!
  • I'm loving that I actually worked out again last night. I only could manage 20 minutes before I almost died of an asthma attack but the sweat and the adrenaline felt amazing!
  • On that same note I'm loving that I'm really buckling down on watching what I eat again. I want to make sure I have a healthy(ier) body before I put anything in there! ;)
  • I'm loving that college basketball season is among us! My Redskins have let me down recently so I am forsaking the NFL for the NCAA! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
  • I'm loving that we have an extra clean house! We spent some time on Saturday and Sunday cleaning the house and it feels really nice. I also am loving that the hubby cleaned up his man-cave and got rid of a bunch of stuff because if anyone else comes to live in our house then that room will be needed!
  • I'm loving that I got rid of most of Leo's Halloween candy but not by way of my mouth! It has been separated by what he will eat and what will be eaten by co-workers or will be in the trash. Thank goodness that temptation is gone!
  • And finally I am loving that Thanksgiving is next week. And there are so many things to be thankful for in my house!

Mr. Melodramatic

So I have come to find out that I have a drama king living in my house. You wouldn't guess it by the amount of boy toys he has flung everywhere that he has the tendencies of a teenage girl but believe you me he does. Every once in a while he will let his inner little girl out. And I'm not saying this in a mean way, but seriously?! He has been acting like I did when I was 16. (I'm not sure where he gets it though!) A few gems he has said to me the last few days to give you an idea of his dramatic ways.

Imagine this: I am cleaning the bathroom (I know, hard to believe, yet true!). I usually do this on my days off when he is in school so he doesn't get underfoot but I stalled throughout the day so he was home. He runs in the bathroom screaming, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I tell him that I am cleaning the bathroom. He wants to help but I tell him no. So he runs off and plays some more. About 10 minutes later he comes back in, OH MY GOD. THE BATHROOM IS SO CLEAN. YOU HAVE DONE SUCH A GOOD JOB CLEANING THE BATHROOM. Cue the laughter. He was so over-dramatic about it. I'm sure he was doing that because when he picks up his toys in his room we tell him he does an awesome job and what-not. But just really funny that I was getting praised by him.

Earlier in the day I had picked him up from school and I always ask him what he did that day. Today he tells me that they did a lot of business stuff. I ask him what that meant and he told me I wouldn't understand because it was business stuff. I kid you not. He said I wouldn't understand.

And finally...for show and tell this week they are supposed to bring something they are thankful for. I asked him last night what he wanted to bring and he told me he wanted to bring his new worker truck. And I asked him if he was really thankful and he said, yup. I'm thankful for all my worker trucks do.

KIDS! :)

It's another Tuesday. Which feels weird since I was off on Monday. But anyways...let's get on with the random.

I have been a lot better about cooking different things. I made chicken manicotti last night and it was pretty good. I think there wasn't enough sauce on it though or the noodles weren't completely covered because the ends of the noodles were a little crunchy still. I was ok with that because I like eating uncooked noodles. Plus it was a very well balanced dinner because we had peas and peaches with it as well. Yum!

I went to Target today and I am finished with all the kids Christmas shopping. Now onto the adults. But that is a little more difficult because on the hubby's side we draw names and that has not happened. Don't these people know that Christmas is 39 days away?! That's right. I said it. 39 days until Christmas! So excited!

Since I was off work on Monday it seems like I couldn't get off the stupid computer. I put an ad on Craigslist for a dinner table that we are trying to sell so I kept getting on my email to check to see if I had any interest. I also kept getting on google reader to see if any new posts have popped up. And of course I'm obsessed with facebook. I haven't even really been posting that much but I like to facebook stalk everyone I know. I'm such a creeper!

I know multiple people that are pregnant and it just keeps making my baby fever hit an all new high. I think knowing that I am coming up on when I think would be ideal for a new baby it is making me want it even more! But I keep having images of having twins and I hope it is not a foreshadow of what might happen. Eeks!

I have been watching E! Channel and it is ridiculous but I can't quit watching! Kendra and Married to Rock. So ridiculous. But so semi-relatable! Haha. I say relatable because on the season premiere of Kendra she was asked to pose for Playboy and she ended up doing it because she wanted to show that moms can be sexy. I obviously will not be posing for Playboy but I want to still be sexy even though I'm not a mom! And on Married to Rock one of the girls was really scatterbrained and her boyfriend (yeah, she wasn't married but they probably didn't want to do married and dating to rock) wanted the house to be organized. She was working full time and then had to do stuff around the house. And then when she couldn't find something or what-not she would get really nervous/frantic because she didn't want to let down her boyfriend. I can relate to that because I have to take care of the house and get dinner ready and make sure Leo is taken care of and still work full-time. It's always a struggle and then feeling like everything has to be perfect makes it even worse.

Ok. That is all I have, which was more than enough I'm sure! If you want to see more go check out Keely and read all the other random!

A Rose is a Rose

So this week’s spin is supposed to be about perfection. And I was thinking about, ah yes. Perfection. The elusive thing that is. Because to me (right now) perfection would totally be not having to be at work and being able to spend lots of time with my family. And lots of money on things that I want instead of things that I need. So of course, perfection would be winning the lottery. Because I would not be one of those crazies that blow it all in the first few months and then have to go to lottery winners anonymous meetings. Because honestly I’m not that crazy! Ok, well maybe I am but I do have a pretty good head on my shoulders and I would really just want to pay off my debt and then buy a nicer house than we currently have. Then I would have like 99.9 million dollars left because I’m totally winning the huge jackpot of 100 million dollars! You know the one I’m talking about? The one that we always dream about winning but don’t want to shell out the $5 to buy a ticket. Yeah, that’s me. I’m pretty lucky but I still don’t like just throwing away money. But I will never, ever win if I never, ever play. And so of course with my 99.9 million dollars left over I would definitely shell out some money to my family members and then the church. And then I’d still have a crap-ton of money left over so I would just get to sit at home and play. I’d still send the monkey to daycare because he needs the structure and the playmates but he definitely wouldn’t be there from 8-5 every day. And then I wouldn’t have to worry about the money for another baby because, duh! I have tons of it! And in my new house there would be a huge gym so I would be able to work out. And then I might have time to pursue hobbies that I don’t have time for now. Like scrapbooking. And baking/cooking. That would be totally awesome! And I would definitely hire a house cleaner. Because that would be the first thing I would spend money on! And I would finally have some alone time to spend with my hubby. So then the baby thing might actually happen!

But then…screech. Reality sets in. Would this really be perfection? But don’t answer that. Because even if really does seem like perfection I’m still sure that I would find that something bothered me, so no. Not perfection. And I know this because I took Leo to go get his pictures taken on Wednesday. And it was the perfect day with the perfect weather. And the session was already paid for, so it was like we were rich. And Leo just wasn’t into it. He has been sick so I understand him not feeling well but it was just for an hour. Couldn’t he just sit still?! And his cousin Chloe were in some of the pictures also and the photographer asked if Leo could kiss Chloe on the cheek or let her kiss him or even just hug one or the other and he wouldn’t listen. It was killing me. The funniest part of the night was when I asked my mom if I was being mean and she told me no. Then I asked her if I sounded mean. She hesitated for a minute and then was like, yes. But no meaner than I ever was to you kids! She was trying to be nice but I knew what she meant. So I just had to sit down on a nearby bench because I didn’t want to sound like a crazy mom. And when I was driving home I was like, All I wanted was the perfect pictures. And it struck me. I have a 3 year old. How much of my life is the perfection that I strive for? I have a body that does not resemble what I would like it to because of him. I have a messy house because of him. And I’m sure those pictures are not going to be perfect because of him. But my life is as perfect as I need it to be…because of him! Even though I complain about the little things that don’t always go right he makes up for so many things that aren’t perfect. The little kisses that he gives me in the mornings when he comes in our room. The way he giggles out of control when we do something silly. The fact that he recognizes music like his dad and could sing part of the Black Eyed Peas song without even hearing it! And then calling it “his song!” Also, the fact that he sleeps just like me and so I know we are just alike! So even though perfection does not look as I imagined it I think I have reached a piece of perfection. And I like how it looks!

To see more spins on perfection go see Sprite’s Keeper. It looks like a lot of us have an idea of perfection that may not be perfect to some but it’s just right for us!

I'm Dreaming Of...

Today we got my little monkeys pictures taken. And it made me start thinking about Christmas and Christmas cards. We got his pictures taken around his first Christmas at JC Penney's and then included them in Christmas cards and then the next few years we just used pictures that I had taken throughout the year and I popped them on the Wal-Mart website and made my own Christmas cards. And I was planning on doing that again this year when I hear about a really awesome deal from Shutterfly where bloggers could receive 50 free Christmas cards by blogging about their selection. And while I love free things I rarely jump on the offer to blog about a certain product. I just don't feel like I have that much to say about products. But I hadn't used Shutterfly before but my friends had and they said it was a really easy site to maneuver and the fact that the words free accompanied the offer I said I'd give it a go. So I went to the website. And there was SO much to look through.

I thought all they had were cards but I was so wrong! I think my favorite thing that I saw was the picture books. I had seen one that my friend had made from her honeymoon and I thought it was so cool. So I of course now need to make one. I think I'm going to make one for the hubby as a Christmas present. He may think it's cheesy but it's easier than a scrapbook! The one I was looking at for him was the 8X8 book in the style Simple Black. They even have a route that's called the Simple Path. It's for people like me that don't have quite the creative knack and it figures it all out for them!

And then I had to look at the baby announcements! No, not pregnant but hopefully next year around this time I will be able to order some announcements. There were so many cute ones but I definitely think that the Inky Chic Pink one was my favorite.

But of course the main reason I was looking was for Christmas cards. Like I had said we got Leo's pictures taken tonight and they are definitely very fall looking pictures with him in his cute (new) sweater and jeans. If I have to say so myself he was pretty darn cute! So of course we will be using one of those pictures for the cards. So for your viewing pleasure I found 2 very cute designs and it will be very tough to choose which one we want! Please imagine Leo's little face looking at you instead of the people in the pictures!

So I really enjoyed the selection of the cards and learning that they have WAY more to offer than just cards. But I definitely will be back for cards as well as the book! And if you are interested in the promotion for the free holiday cards click over here to see what it's about! So thank you Shutterfly for giving me this awesome offer to try out AND blog about!

Random Thoughts: Pictures, McRibs and Other Fun-Funfilled Shennanigans

Holy cow it’s Tuesday. I can’t believe it. This week/month/year is going ridiculously fast. But since it’s Tuesday I’m going to bust out some random. I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Because most of my thoughts are random but anyways…

Apparently McRibs are back at McDonalds. I’m not a fan of them. Honestly I’ve never tried them but they look disgusting. My sister in law loves them but not me. But what I do like is the song that is played on the commercial. It’s called “Love” by Matt White. I either want to dance or lay in a bubble bath when I hear it. I know those two don’t really coincide but in my world they do!

I took the monkey to the doctor last night. I wanted to make sure he was ok for his pictures on Wednesday. Yeah, I’m an awesome mom! Well it turns out he has bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection. Poor little guy. I guess it’s a good thing we decided to take him. Unfortunately the medicine he is on is making him crazy hyper. Awesome.

I helped this little old couple at work today and it was the sweetest thing. The lady was trying to sit down in a chair at my desk and her husband pulled out her chair for her. It reminded me of my grandparents and how when they walk anywhere they always hold hands. It’s so cute.

So yeah, Leo has pictures on Wednesday and I am SO excited. This is the first time he will have had his pictures done by a professional other than JC Penney’s or Sears. I used a groupon and the photographer is a girl I went to high school with that has her own photography business. She takes awesome pictures and I am looking forward to the pictures we get back from her.

My hubby’s birthday is today. The big 3-6. He is now on his downhill slope to 40 but don’t tell him. He’ll just get mad. I called him my silver fox (like from the movie Grandma’s Boy) and he did not find it amusing at all. He was all huffy for the rest of the day. But his birthday has benefited me in a few ways. A few weeks ago when we went to Kansas City for the Chiefs game my parents had bought his ticket for the game. And then this morning I got up and made cinnamon rolls for him for breakfast. But of course I got to eat some too. It was fun though because I put a candle in the cinnamon roll and Leo and I took it to him in bed. And then my boys ate in bed together. So sweet!

Last night I was at Target and there was a big clearance rack (!) for kids clothes. I was looking anyways for a nice long-sleeved shirt or sweater for Leo to wear for his pictures so I thought woo hoo! But then I realized most of the clothes were for girls. So annoying. Why are there so many more clothes for girls? Everywhere I look. Racks upon racks of girl clothes but then a rack for boy clothes. So annoying. And now they are opening up a “girly-girl” place for girls to have birthday parties and tea parties and what not for girls but there is definitely a void for places like that for boys. I wish I had the brain power to come up with an all boys place for parties. Or maybe in bigger cities there are places like that. I’m not sure.
And is it bad…that when I was looking at all those beautiful girl clothes (because of course I had to look!) that I thought, “maybe I should pick a few things up.” You know…in case if and when I get pregnant I will have a girl. Oh my I’m a creep!

Ok. That’s all I have. My brain is surely wiped out. To see more awesome random thoughts head over to Keely’s. She knows her random.

Memoir Monday

Memoir Monday

This weekend has been pretty uneventful. I had to work all day Saturday but luckily it was with a co-worker I enjoy because we were pretty slow. All the excitement for my weekend came Saturday night. I came home from work to find a weird vehicle in our driveway. I come inside and one of my hubby's long lost friends was sitting in our living room! It was such a surprise and a welcome one. The hubby doesn't have a lot of friends and this one moved a few years ago out of state so we see him and his family even less now. So that was fun. We caught up for a few minutes but then the hubby dumped the monkey on me and him and his friend bolted. I thought it was pretty funny. They were basically just waiting on me to get home from work so they could go. And all they were doing was going out to dinner and going to Best Buy. Boys are funny!

And I was ok with them leaving because I already had plans going to my aunt and uncles house for a family gathering. We had family in from out of town so we were able to see them and it was awesome. I played a new game called Bananagrams and it was so much fun. But I'm definitely a word game type of girl. I also ate lots of delicious snacks and then came home around 9:30. I needed an early night after my work week!

And on Sunday we just had a lazy day. The Raiders played the Chiefs and since the hubby is a die-hard Raiders fan we reserved our day for the game. I also made some delicious chicken and dumplings for dinner. Yum! And of course the monkey was a little sicky so we tried to get him to relax as much as possible!

So all in all a pretty laid-back weekend. It was nice to not have much going on that had to be done. Check out more of what other people did this weekend at Monday Memoirs.

the winds of change

I can't believe how kids can change so dramatically from one minute to the next. Yesterday my sweet boy took an extended nap (that should have been the bell dinging in our head) (and PS I was at work so I didn't get to enjoy the extra long nap!) and then got up to play outside for a long while and staying up late playing with his cousins from out of town to waking me up at 2 in the morning wheezing, stopped up and with a barking cough. Sheesh! Give me a break! We are waiting to take him to the doctor hoping it is just allergies and/or sinuses but if the cough doesn't go away soon it will be a mandatory trip. Poor little monkey. The worst part of it is he doesn't even act like he is sick. He was crying wanting to go outside but we felt like it would only exacerbate his symptoms. I felt bad telling him he had to stay inside.

Serious Soap

I'm gonna need some of that dish soap that they advertise that you just drip on your dishes and it takes off the food stuff. I'm just saying. Sometimes my dish soap doesn't cut it and I don't like to scrub.

Love Love Love

I'm keeping up with my blog this month! 3 posts in 3 days. I think it's a record. Ok, it's not really but you know! So it's Wednesday and I'm going to participate again in What I'm Loving Wednesday and you should to because everyone needs something to love!

This week I am loving...

*that my family is healthy! Because unfortunately I am hearing about a lot of others that are not and I am considering us very fortunate!

*World Market. I had never been until today and it is an AMAZING store! You all probably already knew that but I think I was the last one on the World Market boat. I found so much awesome stuff! I even bought a few Christmas presents for some friends. They are going to love them!

*Kitchen stuff. I have been to World Market and Function Junction in the past week and they have really cool kitchen things and I want them all! I really have been into baking and cookies/cupcakes so stuff like that is definitely going on my Christmas list!

*It has cooled down tremendously here and my allergies are not killing me as much as they had been. Definitely a plus!

*My sweet boy! He had such a great time this weekend with all of his Halloween activities and I love that he still wants to play in his costume!

*Netflix. I have been streaming a whole bunch of stuff and it rocks! I always spend too much at Redbox because I'm terrible about getting the movies back next day but I don't have to with Netflix!

*Since it's cooler I can make cool weather food! I'm looking forward to the next few weeks where we'll have homemade chicken and noodles, roast, chicken and dumplings and other yummy stuff like that!

So that's what I'm loving! What are you loving?

So I have been streaming Dexter through Netflix and it is crazy. Really dark. I'd never seen it before because we didn't have Showtime but I wanted to. So I was like, sure I'll watch it. So crazy. I can only really watch an episode at a time because it's crazy!

I feel like I haven't got enough use of my season pass to the zoo. Our zoo rocks here and Leo loves to go but I never feel like we have enough time so I don't go. But the truth of it is, is that even if we only go for 30 minutes it's ok because we don't have to pay (since we already have paid our membership). So I need to get the thought out of my head and get my lazy behind in gear and take him.

I have decided that I have no self control and should no longer bake anything delicious. I made cookies for Leo's Halloween party at school. And while I sent most of the extra cookies in baggies for the other teachers I left some at home. BIG mistake. I have eaten ALL of them. And I do this every time I make anything like this. I feel they shouldn't go to waste and so I chow down. And they're so good so I can't just eat one. It's terrible. But delicious.

Leo has decided that he will not listen to anything I say lately. It is getting to the point where I'm about on my last nerve. The kid will listen to anything his dad says but nothing I say. And not just discipline-wise. If he asks me a question and I answer it he goes to his dad for validation. What happened to my mama's boy and why is he now obsessed with his daddy?! I guess it's time we have a little girl that I can turn into a princess!

We cleaned house this past weekend and it was in desperate need of it. Like deep cleaned. Like moving the furniture and all that nonsense. Do you know what the most coveted items under our bed was? Neither of the items were of people that should be sleeping in the bed on a long term basis. They were Leo's socks and some of his toys. I told him about it and he apologized. What a nice kid!

I got in the Halloween spirit on Friday by watching Practical Magic. I have decided that even though I don't really like Nicole Kidman in her serious roles I really like her in movies where she doesn't take herself seriously. Ex: Practical Magic, Moulin Rouge.

Also getting in the Halloween spirit I watched Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time on Saturday night. All I can say is wow. Very odd movie. I'm not sure I'll watch it again. I guess my sense of humor is not on course for this movie.

And even though Halloween is over I am definitely still feeling the effects of the holiday. Every day the kid asks if he can have candy. From the minute he wakes up in the morning until the minute he goes to bed. I'm pretty sure he's going to turn into a giant piece of candy. And I'm about to throw the candy in the trash.

And now that Halloween is over I can say it. I can't believe it's November! So crazy. Only 2 months until Christmas. Ridiculous!

To check out other random thoughts head over to Keely's. She is usually in the random spirit on Tuesdays!

Halloweenie Weekend

My friend Mrs. Ruby came up with Memoir Monday and I am going to participate this week! And because I'm lazy I'm totally using this as my spin for Sprites Keeper! So here we go...what I did with my Halloween weekend...

Memoir Monday

small cycle

My weekend started on Thursday last week because I had some vacation days that I needed to burn and I thought what better time than Halloween! Thankfully I took the time off because I waited until the last minute to make Leo's Captain America shield. And if I do say so myself I think it turned out pretty good! Friday night we particpated in his Trunk or Treat at his daycare. It was the first year they did it and it turned out pretty good. Then Saturday we went to 2 local museums. Exploration Place is a children's museum and then Cowtown which is a historic museum that is interactive with people walking around in 1800s era clothing and you can visit houses and businesses that were from the 1800s in Wichita that have been restored and moved to the museum. It's pretty cool and both museums had Halloween activities. Finally on Sunday we had the Halloween carnival at the church in the afternoon and then went trick or treating with my brother and his little girl. We had such a good time but I am glad this weekend is over. It doesn't feel like I had a vacation at all!
