The way we use our words

This week’s spin cycle is about words. So today I will give you a few gems my 3-year-old uses and the context sometimes surrounding his words!

When I asked him the other day if he wanted fish sticks or chicken nuggets he told me he wanted chickaladas. Apparently he decided he wanted enchiladas instead of the choices I gave him!

When at the zoo last week he continuously told me, whoa this is awesome. It was so cute to hear him talking like a big kid!

At the park I told him he could climb the toy by himself but I needed to be by him in case he started to fall. And he told me he wasn’t going to bump his noggin!

Of course, with the good there is always the bad.

The other day when his dad was getting after him to put his crap away (in dad’s words) Leo decided to be cute (read: Not cute) and said I’m not gonna put my crap away.

He also has started saying ga-ga head. Which we think he is actually trying to say ca-ca head. I’m guessing he learned this at school because I know we don’t say that word.
And with potty training comes potty humor. He loves to talk about his butt whenever he can. He refuses to say buns or bottom when he is referring to that part of his body but we have just started to ignore him when he says it so he will realize that it’s not going to rile us up anymore. And finally we know he watches too much tv but sometimes we just need a break. Here are the things that he likes to say from what he has learned from tv.

ALVIN—shouting like Dave from Alvin and the Chipmunks

Whenever we get into the car he always yells, “seatbelts buckled like the Little Einsteins.” At least this one has taught him a valuable lesson!

And how can I forget the most famous line in our house currently. It comes from the movie Little Giants. “You can’t pitch to Johnny. I’m Johnny.” He thinks that this is the funniest thing in the world and whenever he says it he busts up laughing! So there’s my spin on words. They can make you laugh and make you cringe. But it’s nice to know that even little kids have personalities and it shows in the way they use their words! Sprite has been quoting "Rainbow, rainbow, go, go, go!" from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse incessantly. She's brought homes a couple of other gems from daycare which I'll probably cover on Friday. :-)

I'm afraid the "not gonna put my crap away" line might be TOTALLY dad's doing. Once, when my son was that age, we were driving in the car, and a jerk driver cut me off. I shook my fist at him and shouted "Hey! Asshole!" (which, I admit was rather rude of me, but...what can I say?) and my son turned around and waved gaily to the driver with a big smile and shouted "Hi, Asshole!" I learned my lesson.

My husband has taught my 3 year old daughter to say "two sake bombs please" for some reason. And while driving I'll hear her talking to herself in the backseat: "N-O-E-L-L-E spells 'Noelle'. Two 'Ls' and two Es'" Ah, out of the mouths of babes....

So cute. I love the funny things kids come up with.

He is such a cutie! I had to get after Hubby when our kids were little and I heard them singing "Like a Virgin." When I jumped on Hubby his response was "I don't listen to the words... I just like the music." DUH!

Nothing like potty humor. He's such a cutie, though, I bet almost anything that comes out his mouth is cute. Now you have to teach him things that will just make the people at school wonder what the hell goes on at your house. For instance, "Two sake bombs, please?"

Exactly. My friend did try to teach him how to say "what up fool" but I nixed that idea. But I think it's better than some things he could be saying!

And it is hard to get made at him because he is so darn cute when he's talking!

Kid Speak is always the best! Your little one is too funny! I miss those days, though - like when Princess Nagger used to refer to her bathing suit as a 'baby snoot'. :)
